Some Hard Data about Soft Skills

Happy New Year!

Hope you got to enjoy some much needed rest before launching into 2023.

I know for me, the last week of December is all about rest and reflection.

You will not find me in Times Square for the ball drop! I spent the last moments of 2022 enjoying a sleepy board game night with a handful of good buddies.

And as much as I love a good new year's resolution, I feel like that process is doomed without a healthy dose of old year reflection

That's why before I sit down to create my New Year business goals, I always take an afternoon to review my past year's numbers.

(As much as I'm a word nerd, I also appreciate some cold hard data!)

And here's the big stat that hit me as I conducted my 2022 audit:

In 2022, more than 60% of my business could be traced back to public speaking events that I participated in.

That means more than 60% of the folks that hired me in 2022 did so because they attended a talk or workshop that I led.

And the amount that I paid to participate in those speaking events was... $0.

Why do I share this with you?

Because I believe that public speaking should be part of EVERY business owner's 2023 strategy.

It is the most time-efficient and cost-effective way to build that "know, like, trust" factor with an audience.

And there are speaking opportunities out there for you, no matter what field you're in.

This past year alone I've helped:

  • Lawyers craft CLEs to showcase their area of expertise
  • Computer Programmers prep technical talks for major conferences
  • Entrepreneurs design personality-filled webinars and social media videos to attract their ideal clients

No matter your field, there are opportunities out there.

So as you reflect on 2022, I challenge you to ask yourself:

  • What audience do I want to get in front of in 2023?
  • What does that audience need to hear?
  • How can I step into the spotlight in a bigger way this year?

And if you find yourself stumped and/or daunted by any of those questions, I encourage you to schedule a complimentary Public Speaking Strategy Session with me ASAP!

Because goals are great!

But, as the saying goes, "a goal without a plan is just a wish."

Hope to plan with you soon!
